Abstract: “The nation’s special education law is called the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA. As part of making special education and related services available to children with disabilities in the public schools, IDEA defines the term “child with a disability.” That definition includes specific disability terms, which are also defined by IDEA, as this report describes.” (Website)

Integration: This report will be used in an activity in which scholars identify the cause and effects for each category of disability (3-21 years of age). This activity will be used to increase students’ awareness of the effects exceptionality can have on an individual’s life and to build their knowledge of the etiology and characteristics of children birth to 5 with disabilities.

Content Focus: Disabilities; IDEA; Health, Safety, and Nutrition

Notes: The Center for Parent Information and Resources serves as the new home of many of the resources (English and Spanish) developed by NICHCY, the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities.
